Following on from the previous post here are the other two pieces I did inline with Disney's model sheets. I think they are ok who knows, I hope you enjoy them, they were pretty fun to pick apart and put back together again! I learned that they are not as easy as they look, they have structure and expression, a purpose for every part of their anatomy. Hopefully I can carry these lessons into my own work when dealing with characters...

Sorry it's been a while, I've just completed an anatomy course by the great Richard Smitheman who use to work at Dreamworks! Who would have though our little town would have such an opportunity to learn from someone as skilled and passionate about the animation industry. Something that feels so out of my reach but it's been a fantastic course I cannot recommend it enough, if interested check out http://londonfiguredrawing.co.uk/ below is some homework he has set me :/ no one likes homework...

Omni and the Tree King, one of the last guardians awaits her. Will he spare her life? What can she possibly exchange to gain access to a hidden power lurking just within her reach... #sketch #conceptart #ilustration #gameart #omnithegame

To all the aspiring artists, DON'T GET TOO COMFORTABLE!! Having been in the creative industry for a few years now (going on 10 but who's counting!) I wanted to give some advice.

I recently started a new job and with all new jobs it is exciting, daunting, and it feels we have really hit the top, this is the one! it's now 7 weeks in and you start to realise, what if this isn't the one, am I going to have enough skills to hit the jobs market again, what's going to be next? You only find yourself at this stage because quite frankly, you have let things slip.

These past few weeks have been the very best of my career so far, digitally painting all day, researching Disney artwork... I would come home and have the mind set, ahh, I have done enough hard slogging work these past 8 years I need a break. NO!! Don't listen to that voice don't ever settle, and definitely never think you have learned enough from life because it can creep up behind you and give you an almighty wallop!

So my plan is to finish a few things by Christmas, enjoy the break then get stuck right into my game Omni. This will mean extra hours at the computer, this will mean turning down invitations and this will mean getting my head back into some online courses. Art needs to evolve, so learn from my past mistakes and make sure you are always ready to battle whatever gets thrown at you.

And if you are wondering about courses please check out SCHOOLISM.
So I have been really busy this summer! I suddenly had quite a few interviews and some job offers, I have accepted one near to where I live so no more London goodbye tube rants and angry pushy people I will not miss you or the smell of exhaust fumes!

I have been working on my game in my spare time but have paused to pick up some freelance work, here is a test I did for a games company in Scotland. Looking to finish texturing this soon.

Found in the depths of the tree temple this blade was forged from root and earth. The first guardian of Persethius awards Omni with a Moon Stone for helping him, her blade is blessed and only used in great times of danger, the blue glow emanates the power of the Moon and tide.

This is the protaginist's first weapon, she encounters it in a temple when the 1st guardian of Persethius is saved and in doing so rewards her with the 'MoonStone'. This is then placed inside the blade to give it a firey light in the darkness, her elements are light & water. All of Omni's weapons and clothing are themed by the sun, moon, and stars.

This is just a wip shot, hoping to have it textured by the end of the week, it will be the first of many hand painted weapons :) stay tunned!

This is a little article that I was recently featured in, great to have something out there and if you would like to read it please follow this link :) https://studiovox.com/blog/five-digital-artists-you-should-know

This is my competition piece for the Artstation challenge 'The Journey' mine is based on a story/ game I am making. This is the portal in which Omni finds herself traveling through to leave the darkness of the Elven Realm behind her, she then embarks on a perilous adventure to find help to save her village, family, friends, and maybe the very future of Persethius. ‪#‎artstation‬ ‪#‎environment‬ ‪#‎art‬ ‪#‎artist‬ ‪#‎character‬ ‪#‎gameart‬ ‪#‎schoolism‬

I did this piece in a day for an art test

So this weekend I attended the #schoolism workshop, it's my 3rd one now and gets better with each year. This time we got to see Wesley Burt, Karla Ortiz, and Jeff Turley do live demos. These guys have worked on the biggest games, animated films such as Ubisoft, Disney, etc.... But the highlight for me was meeting my artist hero, Nathan Fowkes, I chatted away to him for some time at the after party until the lights went up. I trained with him on 2 full courses and he even remembered my work! Here are some photos from the event, including my signed sketch book. The best weekend ever! Thanks #schoolism #bobbychiu #nathanfowkesart

This is a sketch of my main character for my game, her name is Omni and is a threat to the evil creeping across the land of Persethius.

Finished! After thinking this would be a quick way to refresh my 3D modelling skills, it actually took a little longer than I thought it would. However, I am happy with it and can now move onto other props for my game :)

I had a great weekend playing around with some styles, I added a splash of colour for now but when I have some time I would like to complete them.

I started making some props for my game, more to come!

Personal piece for my game, this character isn't what she seems... Using her siren like magic to beckon beings and creatures to her silent call she uses potions and magic to defeat her foes. Wouldn't you rather have this deadly beauty as an ally?

Goya is a new character I have been working on for my game, he has a tiger spirit who he summons when in battle to help him destroy enemies.

Quick 2 hour study of the late David Bowie after hearing the sad news yesterday...

Happy New Year! And welcome to my blog, I have been attending some life drawing classes in the evenings after my day job as a games artist. This year I want to create 4 different human characters to give a bit of diversity to my portfolio. After that I am going to include them in my own game, so lots going on here and let's all keep drawing, 2016 is going to be great for art!

Sam Nielson's course with Imaginsim Studios was great to discover the science behind light and how it effects different materials. This was an in depth course but I really enjoyed it! You can see some of my assignments here, I just have the final to complete before I start my next course.

Hi all, it's been a while since I posted but it's because I am starting a new project. I am working on my own game and this is my first final character, I am hoping to get a few more created over the next few months and my game website is under way. Watch this space for more art :)

I created some chibi styled characters for an art test, it was a little challenging, but fun to explore a new style!

Quick sketch of a new character for my portfolio, I have been playing with styles but I think this is the one I am settling on :)

Recently I have been experimenting with characters, trying to find the right degree of cartoon/ realism to build on. Here are a few examples-

It looks like the summer is almost over in Hertfordshire and I am taking another schoolism course which will make posting new work a little more difficult. I am planning a couple projects to complete over the winter months so bare with me as I find a healthy balance in posting! This was a quick daily exercise on the train in to work, I might take her to colour :)

Small sketch while on holiday in Wales last week.

I finished off a piece I did as a value comp while on Nathan's course a few months back, I really liked the idea of a story behind this so couldn't help slapping some paint on it.
Working on another piece I did on my last course with Nathan Fowkes, I just liked the idea of this one. It reminds me of the sort of books I use to read as a teenager by Robin Jarvis and Brian Jacques. The value is ready now so I can finish it off in colour :)

My latest piece :) I always wanted to work on a quirky video game like Zelda. This is my take on Link and Navi, I miss those good old N64 days playing with my siblings.

Had a lot of fun working on this piece, took a couple days. I wanted it to have a Zelda feel to it and it might be a style I explore a bit more.

Working on something new, trying to combine my 2D & 3D

These are some little daily doodles I try to fit in on the train to work :)

Here are some in-game assets I worked on last year-

This is my finished final piece for Nathan's Fowkes Pictorial Composition class with http://www.schoolism.com/ I hope you like it! You can see Nathan's work here http://nathanfowkes.blogspot.co.uk/
